Fashion show benefits charity

Story Picture
It started out in 1988 as a social club for the wives of foreign diplomats to get to know Belizean women. However, through regular fundraising, the role of the International Women’s Club has expanded to include important donations to several community projects. The club’s latest charitable activity is a fashion show planned for Tuesday evening at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel. Both Karen Daines and Linda Lin Bowman say the show will be a good time for a worthy cause.

“We raise for scholarships funds, basically for the Child Care Centre, health services and the children’s home in Belmopan. Various organisations, people who need food programmes for children who are unable to get a meal. It has expanded to include the needs, and as the needs are addressed, the organisation writes in, the board views it and then we help in whatever way we can.”

“We have a wide range of things presented. Some swimwear, lots of gorgeous gowns that hopefully the ladies would want to purchase for the season coming up. We have a couple of surprises I don’t want to give away yet. Our models will include most of the club’s relatives, daughters, nieces and nephews. So we want to have a good time and raise a lot of money for the club.?

?We’re calling it a Happy Hour Fashion Show. It?s going to start at 6 o?clock and with that on your ticket you can get bocas and soft drinks. Then we have a Happy Hour cash bar with Happy Hour prices, we’ll also have lots of raffles and a door prize. Fun is the name of the game. Fun, fun, fun.”

Tickets for the International Women’s Club’s fashion show can be bought for twenty-five dollars at Mala’s on New Road or at the Belize Biltmore Plaza. Show time is 6:00 p.m.
