Edwin Marin is Charged for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

In the second shooting which occurred on Monday afternoon, also in the White Cocal area of Corozal Town, the target escaped unhurt.  Vanessa Matus says that she exited a yard on Toucan Street and as she was about to get into a car, a gunman, who she recognized, opened fire at her. That person has since been detained and charges are soon to be levied. Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says that both incidents are as a result of an ongoing dispute between two groups in the area.

“While she was leaving from that address, she observed a male person who she knows riding a bicycle. As the male person approached her, he came off of his bicycle and fired several shots in her direction. She managed to drive away from there and thereafter made a report to the police. The person who she mentions that she knows has been detained and I believe that he will be charged sometime this evening.”

“Yes, we believe that both incidents are related as it is an ongoing dispute that they have in that area.”

Just before news time today, police formally arrested and charged Edwin Marin of Corozal Town with the crime of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. It is expected that Marin will be arraigned on Wednesday in the Corozal Magistrate’s Court.
