Created for Success – Nazarene High Hosts its Biennial Expo
The compound of the Nazarene High School was buzzing with activity today as students participated in an expo to show off their knowledge and skills. While some students chose to put in practice what they have learnt in lessons such as English and Math, there were others who relied on the use of technology to display their innovative minds. Here is Duane Moody with a report.

“Created for Success” – it’s the theme for an expo held today at the Nazarene High School in Belize City. Eighteen booths at the institution were set up representing students from first to fourth form; they were tasked with devising an innovative products or services using knowledge they have acquired in class.
Jeniecia Sanker, Counsellor, Nazarene High School
“The first time we had it was two years ago, 2018 and it is a lot of excitement. This year, we are showing all of the subject areas; we are making the subject areas come alive. So for example: science, English, math and religion—all of these subjects come alive at the booth and that’s the excitement of today. Taking all of that curriculum and what they’ve learnt every day, academic notes and stuff like that and presenting it in a creative way where everybody can look at them and see oh they are learning and they have been presenting to the public.”
In the technological era, gadgets and other devices continue to be used for leisure, communication and networking. One booth focused on electronic document preparation management. Forth Form Academic Student Alicia Perez spoke of the importance.

“It’s basically about the different keys on a keyboard and the different software used in this subject. It’s about creating different documents like this teaches us about how to create labels and business cards, flyers and banners. So that’s what EDPM is about.”
There were booths that focused at horticulture as well as technical and vocational skills.
Alvaro Perez, Technical Group
“We are working on controlling light with three and four switches. We have these switches are controlling this florescent tube light and we have a parallel circuit here which if we take off this bulb, it doesn’t affect the other one. We also have a photo scent here which means when they come this will take like thirty seconds to off and it has high resistance and it doesn’t let electricity flow.”

“So how is it that this can apply to everyday use?”
“You can apply this if we are working in building which has one floor, second floor and third floor which and control the light from one floor to the next.”
The students all receive a grade for their projects. Duane Moody for News Five.
