Gimme 5 kicks off tonight
If you happened to visit the lobby of Channel 5 today you would have seen a steady stream of people, all getting in their last minute entries for the annual Gimme 5 promotion. The event, now in its ninth year, promises to be another week of fun and free gifts.

This year’s Gimme 5 promises to be bigger and better.

“Each night there is a big main prize and all the prizes that come during the hour and half or two hours that we are on the air will really be very nice. And there is also the great fun aspect of it, just the excitement of waiting for the telephone to ring and see if the people do indeed answer with the words ?Gimme 5.”
But there will be more than just prizes and surprises. Every night the studio will be jamming with live entertainment, including bands, poetry and dancing.
Gimme 5 started nine years ago to celebrate Channel 5’s Birthday. It’s the stations’ way of giving a big thank you to all those who have kept us on the air.

“We really have two constituencies at the television station. One is certainly our viewers, we put things on the air to please our viewers, but we also have the advertising side. What keeps us in business is the cooperation and patronage of our advertisers. So with this Gimme 5 promotion it?s really our way to express our appreciation to both those constituencies.”
Krohn says he is aware that every year there are those who would do anything to beat the system.

“They will photocopy huge pages and pages of entries or they will have the fellows who print the newspapers, the actual printers who print off hundreds and hundreds of extra pages, and keep those for themselves or give them to friends or even sell them. You have some enterprising newspaper boys who will take out the pages with Gimme 5 before they sell the papers, so people would buy the paper only to get home to find out there is no Gimme 5. I am urging and appealing with those people however how much they may want to win or profit from this thing to try and give everyone a chance and try to play it straight.”
The fun starts at eight tonight and all you need to remember is when the phone rings… say ?Gimme 5.?
Gimme 5 culminates on Friday night with the drawing of the trip to the states and five hundred dollars cash. William Neal will once again host the show and we will be accepting entries here at Channel Five right up until the last coupon is drawn.
