Bowen and Bowen helps fix schools
Belize’s largest soft drink manufacturer, Bowen and Bowen Limited, along with Coca Cola International, presented a check to the Ministry of Education for almost eighty thousand dollars. The money will be used to assist forty-six schools that were damaged by Hurricane Keith. Today News Five spoke to Bowen’s sales manager Nick Pollard about the donation.

“Well as you know Hurricane Keith did a lot of damage to the rural schools, schools in Orange Walk and Corozal. We had already looked at our Christmas promotion, we normally do our consumer promotion every other year. These promotions run anywhere between seventy five to one hundred thousand Belize dollars. After the hurricane we looked at the situation, we said we would contact the Ministry of Education. They gave us some assessment of the damages and we spoke to the Coca Cola International people and they were very open to the idea of doing something for the schools instead of doing the Christmas promotions this year.”
Faye Gillett District Education Officer, Belize District
“It’s a tremendous effort by Bowen and Bowen. Bowen and Bowen have been helping out the Ministry of Education for some time now, and we regard them as an important stakeholder in the Ministry of Education. And it’s a very timely donation, and I’m sure it will be well used by all the kids who benefit from it.”
Pollard said that his company continues its work with the Ministry of education particularly for the annual spelling bee. Zone eliminations for next year’s competition get under way February fourteenth.
