Killing of Children – A Most Serious Form of Human Rights Violation
The bloodbath in the streets, including the murder of young children, is prompting condemnation. Earlier today, the National Committee for Families and Children in collaboration with the Office of the Special Envoy and the Ministry of Human Development as well as the National Women’s Commission issued a joint release, alarmed at the increase in the number of children and women who have become victims of gun violence. The N.C.F.C. says that the killing of children is one of the most serious forms of human rights violations. Information and Communications Officer at the N.C.F.C., Ava Diaz-Sosa told News Five today that these vicious acts rob the nation of unknown potential.

“We are very concerned in what we have been seeing, especially over the past couple of days. We have seen where families are in essence being torn apart because of gun violence. For us at NCFC, we are not an implementing agency so we are not on the ground, but what we do is work with different partner agencies. We put together a press release just to share our disgust with what is happening and to emphasise that when the life of a child is taken, you take all that potential; that unknown potential that child could have given to the development of a country. When a woman’s life is lost, you take from her children their primary caregiver. And so for us, yes we lament what is happening and we question where the soul of our communities have gone because you ask yourself, what would motivate someone to just callously take the lives of someone whose life has not even really started as yet.”
