7 Dead, 9 Others Injured in Shootings Across the City
In less than forty-eight hours, gun violence has claimed the lives of as many as seven persons, including two children ages four and five. Nine others, including an elderly man and a two-year-old girl, were also injured in the rash of senseless violence that started around eight p.m. on Sunday and continued up to this afternoon. Across all sectors the mayhem and the loss of lives are cause for concern. Caribbean Shores area representative, Kareem Musa spoke to the media today on crime, which has been spiralling out of control.
Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores
“The criminals in our country are the minority and for two long, for the last couple of years, we have been made prisoners inside our own homes. Not these criminals; they are not the prisoners, we are. We have been confined to our homes, but even in our prison cells, we are not safe. It is clear that these bullets, they don’t care if you are blue or red or green or yellow. They don’t care if you are a mother, a young mother of two very young children herself. They don’t care, so it really speaks to the level of disregard that the criminals now have in going after and executing their target. They don’t even care who they are killing in the process. And so while they may have a beef with somebody in particular, they are just going to spray up the whole household and disregard the occupants of that household. And so it speak volumes, Duane, to know that in Women’s Month, in Child Stimulation Month, of all the months, March, we are having the last few hours so many of our young children dying without getting a chance to live this life. It is unimaginable that it has gotten to this point.”
