Story Picture
“Techniques For Safety For Women” will be the topic of discussion at a seminar on November twenty-fifth. The seminar, which will be hosted by the Ministry of Human Development, Women and Civil Society, is in celebration of International Day to End Violence Against Women. Anita Zetina of the Department of Women’s Affairs tells us more.

Anita Zetina, Director, Dept. of Women’s Affairs

“We?ve been having training, seminars and workshops and public awareness for the public in general. We thought that one different activity that we could do this year is to involved women in allowing them to get some tips on how they can take care of themselves. You know that we?ve been hearing about sexual assault against women recently and so we want to give them the opportunity to learn some techniques for personal safety.

?Who will be conducting this seminar??

?We will have facilitators from the Ministry of National Security as well as Mr. Douglas Bateman who is a karate instructor. We are encouraging women to come out and participate. They are to bring a towel and tennis shoes to be comfortable so that if there is any need for us to do some practical exercises, we?ll be comfortable to do that.?

The event is free and will teach women basic techniques to protect themselves and prevent crime. The workshop takes place under the theme: Men and Women-Powerful Forces Behind Stopping The Violence. It gets underway at two in the afternoon.
