Students to Practice Home-Based Learning During 2 Weeks of No Classes

Patrick Faber

Going forward, schools are being asked to provide parents with a home-based learning plan for their children.  Parents are to ensure that students spend a part of each day in reading and learning activities. Faber also stressed that should a school conduct online classes, access to internet services as well as the appropriate devices to all students should be considered.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“The schools are asked to prepare and share with parents a home based learning plan for students which includes suggested topics and activities such as readings and assignments. This is similar to what some schools and teachers normally provide to students over Easter and Christmas breaks to keep them learning while they are away from school. These two weeks will stretch on into the Easter vacation so we ought to be preparing in regards to the home based learning package for an entire month. What are parents expected to do? Well parents and caregivers are ask to ensure that children spend a part of each day engaged in reading and learning activities that are provided by school or obtained from other sources. We have asked the Ministry of Education personal though SQUADS resources that will be lodged at the ministry’s website or that we have links so that people can go there and make that connection so that children can spend these two weeks engage in reading and learning activities. The question about online learning has also been popping up. We do encourage this where it is possible however we are concerns that where that kind of practice is going to occur that adequate access by all students can be assured.”
