The Tale of the B.D.F. Heli Crash and the Postmortem

As you heard just now, the team is still carrying out the internal investigation. But one other point that stuck out during at Wednesday’s press conference relates to the autopsy. While there were speculations about what may have killed the B.D.F. officers, the Civil Aviation Department’s cites the cause of death as blunt force trauma injuries. On Wednesday, the media inquired about why the family members were not allowed to view the bodies nor witness the postmortem.  Well, according to the lead investigator that was done because of the condition of the bodies. Here’s how that portion of the Q and A went.

“Who conducted autopsy? Could you give us details into the autopsy? Who conducted it? Who were present? What protocols were used and will those reports be made public?”

“No. They won’t be made public. They were handed over to the families today and it is in their hands. That is strictly up to the discretion of the families. The autopsy was conducted by the forensic services.”

“Who were the independent observers for the autopsy? Who was on the team? Were family members? Who were the independent people that were a part of the autopsy itself?”

“Family members were there. They were not allowed to go inside so they didn’t get first hand information. The team from national security under the forensic service lab – they were the ones who performed the autopsy.”
