Darrell Bradley for U.D.P. Leader
Darrell Bradley is currently the President of the Senate. He ran as the U.D.P. standard bearer for Caribbean Shores in 2015, but was defeated by the P.U.P.’s Kareem Musa. Bradley is not a standard-bearer and does not represent any constituency, but the U.D.P. constitution allows anyone from the National Assembly to be eligible for the position. Bradley says he has recognized his challenges, but believes that he is the best option for the party.

You would either vote for the former Belize City mayor or the most senior Wilfred Elrington or the most junior Omar Figueroa or the most politically damaged or liable John Saldivar or the most not liked personality in the U.D.P. at the moment Patrick Faber. How do you fair against them and what are your options?”

“I don’t want to put it in that context. I do agree Hipolito that politics fundamentally is about a candidate, what the people feel about the candidate. But I want to do is to make my candidacy about issues.”

“Sir let’s fast forward to convention day and let’s say that you become the victor on that day. You will need a constituency. Have you zoomed in to any specific constituency so far?”

“I have given some thoughts about that, but not any specific thought that I would reveal publicly. When one thinks about this, one has to be about five moves ahead. I have approached individual people who have offered insight and offered how that could be resolved, but that is an issue that I admit is a challenge to my candidacy. I would have to, if I were to become the prime minister, win a seat. The Prime Minister of Belize, by the law of Belize, has to come from the House of Representatives. You cannot be the prime minister unless that is the case. That is a weakness and I concede to that. But that is something that I would have to recognize and those who vote for me or those who consider voting for me will have to accept that as well.”
