Liberty Foundation Protecting Its Staff and Resident Minors from COVID-19
Belize is currently in phase yellow and the virus is contained on San Pedro, where the first confirmed case infected her mother. Since then, there has been a nationwide quarantine and a state of emergency has been placed on Ambergris Caye, prohibiting travel to and from the island. But in the event that the virus spreads to the mainland, Belize District to be exact, Executive Director at Liberty, Agatha Valentine says that they will have to tweak its prevention strategy.
Agatha Valentine, Executive Director, Liberty Foundation
“We had to look at what are the next steps with regards to staff because if it hits us at Liberty, it would be a staff that would bring it in; the virus doesn’t move, people move the virus. So we have done a lot of planning again in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Development. We have done a lot of training of staff members. We have looked at in the worst case scenario, what would have to be is that staff also be contained to the facility. We have staff that are real team players; some of them have committed to remaining on the compound in the worst case, if we progress to a stage two, three, four with the COVID-19.”
