Female forger swindles merchants
Businesses should be on the lookout for a woman shopping in Belize City with bogus checks. Police have documented two similar incidents of forgery in the past two weeks. On the sixteenth of October the unidentified woman purchased household items from Vishu Paragrani’s “V-Mart” store on Albert Street. She paid with a Scotia Bank cheque valued at seven hundred and sixty five dollars and left with her goods and three hundred and twenty five dollars in change. Then on the thirty-first, the same woman purchased items from Hiranand Padwani, at “Krishna” store on Queen Street. Again she paid with a Scotia Bank cheque, this time valued at five hundred and ninety five dollars. She walked out the store with her goods and four hundred and thirty five dollars in change. When Padwani and Paragrani made their deposits, the bank informed them that the cheques were not genuine. Police are looking for a suspect that they believe lives in the Corozal District.
