Police Officer Charged for Dangriga Resident’s Death
A police officer has been charged for the tragic death of Dangriga resident Giovanni Villafranco. Corporal Elton Alexander Elijio is charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, negligent grievous harm, and failure to provide specimen. He was arraigned in a Dangriga Magistrate court where he pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail of ten thousand dollars and is expected to return to court on July sixth. Villafranco, who was on a motorcycle along with Jaheed Johnson, was hit by Elijio who was travelling in a Toyota Four-Runner. The incident happened on Sunday on the George Price Drive. Villafranco was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he died. Johnson remains hospitalized for a broken rib, head injuries, and a swollen jaw. Witnesses are alleging that Elijio was under the influence at the time of the accident.
