Halloween comes to the KHMH pediatric ward
Today provided some brightness and cheer into an otherwise dull day for the children of the Pediatric Ward at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. While the kids could not go out and play for Halloween, the staff members of American Airlines went to the hospital to give them some treats and a brand new television set.

“Over a period of time we wanted to do community projects especially involving the KHMH. The employees over a period of time had done their own fund raising. This is completely an employee project where they have done the fund raising to purchase a TV for the pediatric ward and some nebulizers for the ward as well and some clothes that we had donated from Dallas, Texas. We thought that Halloween would be a good time this year because we brought some treats for the kids.
Pamela Cardona, Sales Rep., American Airlines
“It started actually when one of our staff members who had an infant here. She mentioned to us that they need nebulizers and there was a line of kids waiting to use nebulizers. So with that we said we were going to take up the project. All of us a grouped got together and we did different types of fundraising. We had a bingo night at the Bliss Institute that brought in the bulk of the money for the things that we have here today. One year at that Expo we did a Tambola which was very popular and that’s where we raised quite a bit of our money and that’s the type of things we do. Now that we’ve come here, we’ve seen what they needed. I made a call and the doctor said that they needed a TV for the surgical ward for the kids because they can’t move around.”
“Being here today we’ve seen that there are several things that they still need like clothing for the kids that are here. So we took up the list that they’ve given us and we are going to get together as a staff and try to bring all the stuff that they need probably around Christmas time or earlier if we can.”
