MOE Offers Online Resources for Teachers
…and while the ministry has called on teachers to play a critical role during this time that classes remain closed, today Cecilia Ramirez Smith says that they are also making some resources available for all teachers. Those resources include online material to offer support to help them transition to distance learning.
Cecilia Smith, Deputy Chief Education Officer
“We also want them to pay attention to their own professional development. So, during this period, the Ministry will offer at least two online professional development sessions for teachers. One of them is focused on psycho-social support for teachers. It is a difficult time and we are concerned about the well-being of teachers and so we are going to organize a training session that focuses on that area. The other one has to do with helping teachers to transition to online learning. It is not black and white and it is not the same as I teach you in a face to face session and so I can just use that and teach you by distance. The science is a little bit different and so we have a training session that will focus on helping teachers how to do that. Both of these sessions are going to be offered to teachers on all levels and teachers can register for these online sessions once they are made available.”
The registration portal will be ready for next week. You can find the details on the Ministry of Education’s website and Facebook page. The ministry says that teachers will need their Belize Education Management Information System number to access these online resources. If you don’t have your BEMIS number, you are asked to call 631-4450.
