Story Picture
Belizeans who are interested in a career in business will soon have the opportunity to study free of charge in the United Kingdom. The new program is being offered by the Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Polytechnic University in Chelmsford, England. The scholarship fund has been created by Sir Michael Ashcroft and is being administered through the Ashcroft Foundation. Michael Coye is the foundation’s representative in Belize.

“Sir Michael Ashcroft has established a fund for one point five million dollars to enable nine students at any one time to study in a three or four year degree programme. At the end of the programme they will end up with a bachelors degree in business administration. The scholarship requirements are that the person be a resident of Belize and that they be seventeen to twenty-one years at the time of application.”

“Why did Mr. Ashcroft establish this scholarship fund?”

Michael Coye

“Well he has always had an attachment with Belize and he believes this is one way he can contribute to the development of Belize. By having these students return and apply their entrepreneurial skills to the development of Belize. One of the requirements is that each candidate must sign an undertaking saying that they will have satisfactory progress in their studies, which is determined by the university itself. But also on the completion of their degree program that they will return and live and work in Belize for five years.”

Coye says that the final date for the receipt of applications is December fifteenth. If you would like further information about applying for a scholarship you can contact your school principal or Michael Coye at the Belize Bank.
