Revenge may be the motive for Aaron Brooks murder

Story PictureThe twenty-ninth murder for 2009 happened just before seven-thirty last Friday night on the boundary between the Collet and Port Loyola Divisions as the old capital continues to be plagued by the highest number of homicides in the jewel. Friday night’s murder was carried out by one man who opened fire on a group of four. Aaron Brooks died instantly, revenge is believed to be the motive. News Five visited the scene and spoke with the family of the deceased.

This railing shows where the first of nine bullets hit after it ricocheted off the cap of Bart Brooks as a lone gunman opened fire on him on Friday night and a group of three other young men who had gathered in front of his home. The incident occurred around seven-thirty off Raccoon Street Extension in Belize City.

He and a sister told News Five off-camera that their brother, twenty-one year old Aaron Brooks, had left his house on North Creek to visit him and had only been there for a short while when he was shot numerous times by a youth who wore a mask.

Brooks says even though he was the first targeted, he never managed to see the gunman because the bullets were fired from a walkway from the back of the yard approaching from Pen Road towards his house.

Police believe the murder was motivated by revenge for a previous shooting. This afternoon they charged Neil Grey with Brooks’ murder. Marion Ali for News Five.

Twenty-two year old Neil Grey is the brother of Everal Grey, who was shot on August twenty-fourth of last year, allegedly by Aaron Brooks. Relatives of Brooks say they believe that his murder was an act of revenge because on September third, 2008 Brooks was charged with Attempted Murder of Everal Grey. Police had detained the Grey brothers for this latest killing but so far only Neil has been charged and will remain in custody until May seventh. Everal Grey is reportedly still being questioned by police.
