Sunday’s Total Lockdown Lifted

Michael Peyrefitte

There are no new cases of the COVID 19 virus, the last reported case was twelve days ago, so on Monday, the House of Representatives will be in session in Belmopan to primarily extend the state of emergency for an additional two months. During this time restrictions will be relaxed gradually and depending on the situation evolves, business will gradually resume.  First, the fourteen-day quarantine will come to an end this weekend and certain businesses will be allowed to operate within certain hours of the day. Essential services and workers will continue to operate. Businesses such as fuel depots, food processors and manufacturers, grocery stores, construction sites, pharmacies will be allowed open for limited hours. Restaurants can also open for certain hours for delivery and pick-ups. Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte provided specifics during today’s Ask the Expert episode. Peyrefitte stressed that the strict regulations implemented for the past two Sundays will now be relaxed commencing this coming Sunday.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“This Sunday, two days from now will not be that strict, strict Sunday that we have been having the last two Sundays. So this Sunday shop will open. Gas stations will open. You could move to help elderly people with their homes and stuff. Sunday will be just like Monday to Saturday starting this Sunday until next week Friday. So you can exercise Sunday morning five o’clock to eight o’clock if you want. This Sunday you can go to shop. Pharmacies will be open. Remember previously on a Sunday only the twenty four hour places could be open along with essential services. Now fishing for livelihood could take place. Productive sector places can open. Manufactures can open on a limited basis. So Sunday will be a regular Sunday for a lack of a better way to put it. It won’t be extra, extra strict. It will be just as strict as the other six days. Even though Sunday it will not be as strict as it is today come Sunday you could still only be outside for essential purposes.”
