Arts council seeks band members
Christmas may be two months away, but already the Belize Arts Council is getting prepared for yet another entertaining season. Whether you know how to play an instrument or not, if you are interested in participating in this year’s concert, classes begin next week Tuesday. Luis Chan, the national music coordinator, says they are inviting musicians from across the country to come in and play.
Luis Chan, National Music Coordinator
“We are looking for new members and we are looking for seasoned musicians that we would like to come in and to volunteer their musical ability to try to work with the programme. Also we are looking for teachers who have a little music knowledge and some playing ability on any instrument. They can contact me at the Arts Council and we will be able to have a little interview. Likewise we have free music classes starting next week Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 that is open for everybody.”
Chan can be reached at the National Arts Council at telephone number 72110 or 72458. And if your tastes run toward percussion, the Belize City House of Culture will be offering a series of classes on drumming–that is the marching band type of drumming. The sessions will be held on Saturday mornings from nine to twelve beginning November fourth and continuing for six weeks. Beginners are welcome and you can sign up with your school principal, if your school is one of those with band instruments donated by the Governor General.
