Still No Charges for Murder of Hattieville Resident, Julian Ebanks

Julian Ebanks

One person has been detained in connection with the murder of Julian Ebanks, a resident of the Bainsville area of Hattieville. On Monday morning, Ebanks was gunned down a few yards from his house. As he walked home, police say he was approached by three persons, one of whom pulled out a gun and opened fire at him. He was struck multiple times and ended in a drain; while being rushed in the pan of a police pickup truck, Ebanks succumbed. Today, Commissioner Chester Williams told News Five that investigators believe that his killing was retaliation for an incident in which Ebanks was accused of setting a man on fire in Mahogany Heights.

“Police were called to the Belizean American Site—I believe the name of the place is in Hattieville—where they encountered Julian Ebanks who had gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to the K.H.M.H. and succumbed while being transported. Historical background is that Mister Ebanks was the prime suspect in a case in Mahogany Heights where a young man was set on fire. I know that the police had interviewed Ebanks in respect to that matter. The virtual complainant then, while he said to the police who did it, he refused to give a statement and to request court action and so Ebanks could not have been dealt with. We anticipated this would have been the outcome. We just need to see what we can do now to investigate and try to find those who are responsible and do what we can to bring them to justice. The persons we suspect, I think we have caught one of them and we are still looking or two. But again, getting people to cooperate is always the problem. We just have to keep working on it and see where we go from there.”
