Belizean chips now on Jamaican market
While Belizean farm production will take a temporary nosedive due to the hurricane, one local food processor has bucked the trend and on Tuesday will begin to export his product. Benque Viejo Snack Company will ship its first container of Luna plantain chips to Jamaica, where it will be marketed by Grace Kennedy. The snack company has significantly expanded its production capability and hopes to export two containers per month to Jamaica. Luna plantain chips are already sold in Barbados and the manufacturer hopes to add other Caribbean markets in the future. The increased volume has enabled the Benque Viejo based processor to lower prices for chips on the local market.
