Mayor Bernard Wagner Cautiously Optimistic About Revenue Stream

Bernard Wagner

Since last week, some restrictions have been eased on the countrywide state of emergency and many businesses, including services provided by the municipal government, have resumed operation. Town and city councils have been closed for almost six weeks and the revenue stream became a slow trickle. Today, we asked Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner, about the coffers at City Hall. He says there is no significant turnaround since the start of the week, so he and his council remain cautiously optimistic going forward.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“Last week was our first full week that we came back. We see minor, lee trickling coming in and more improvement from where we were before. We remain cautiously optimistic. We know that all businesses are still suffering, people are not back on the job; even the government is feeling the pinch as we speak. And so we don’t see any significant turnaround in the short-term, but medium term and long term, we would want to see that improve.”
