Deputy ComPol Robert Mariano Retires

Robert Mariano

And shifting to the police force, a well-known known face in law-enforcement is moving on. He served in the Belize Police Department for as many as thirty-eight years, moving up the ranks before retiring earlier this week as Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commander of Administration. Robert Mariano was a career police officer for most of his life, serving in various capacities in the department. His duties have now been passed on to Assistant Commissioner of Police Dezerie Magdaleno. Earlier this week, ComPol Chester Williams spoke about the retirement of his good friend.

“Let me first and foremost say thanks to Mister Mariano for his thirty-eight years of service to the Belize Police Department and the country of Belize. I believe he served with distinction and he rose all the way to the rank of Deputy Commissioner, coming through the ranks. He is a good friend of mine, I must say and he will be missed. He was, as you would know, our Commander of Administration, who is the second deputy. That post is not being held by Assistant Commissioner Dezerie Magdaleno. And so, basically she has taken over that position and hopefully in the not too distant future, she will be elevated to the rank of deputy commissioner and then we go from there.”

Aside from his work with law enforcement, Mariano also served in other capacities and was active in the National Garifuna Council.
