PM to P.S.U.: “Do not Continue to be Unreasonable”

Dean Barrow

While government’s monthly operating expenses sit at roughly ninety million dollars, the steep plummet in May will leave a sixty million dollar deficit.  In the context of cuts being made in the private sector and elsewhere in the public sectors, PM Barrow says that the Public Service Union is being rather unreasonable since others are willingly giving up much more given the overall financial circumstance.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“You cannot get away from the financial picture that I have painted, salaries are forty-five million dollars monthly.  For April, we only collected forty-one and for May it is expected to go down to thirty, in addition to the forty-five million dollars, there’s forty-five million more in other operating expenses.  Ninety million dollars per month and we expect to be collecting something like thirty.  It absolutely does not add up. Please, while we have to always be civil and while indeed we have to entertain the PSU with respect to information that they are seeking, do not let that take away from the absolute straightness and transparency of the equation.  You’re being asked to give up very little, so many others are being asked to give up so much more, yet more people, the great majority in this country are not being asked.  Circumstances have obliged them to make these huge sacrifices.  In that context, do not, I say to the Public Service Union, do not continue to be unreasonable.”
