Criminal Activities Minimized
There has been little crime reported across the country, except for in Dangriga where there was a flare up of violence due to warring gang groups in that southern municipality. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams spoke to News Five today about the mitigation of crime in that area.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“When Dangriga was about to get out of hand, the SOE was in place and so that should tell us that the SOE alone does not mitigate crime. Quit trying to take away the efforts of the police in doing what we are doing to mitigate the occurrences of crime. There is a lot that we are doing other than the SOE to ensure that we keep a tab on criminals and criminality. We went to Dangriga; we did what needs to be done in Dangriga. CYDP went in, did what they need to do and we have seen some calm in Dangriga. We are still monitoring the situation; we still have officers on the ground from the specialized units in Dangriga doing anti crime operations on a daily basis with a view to ensure that the people of Dangriga live in peace; that they get that sense of peace and quiet that they so rightly deserve.”
