Belizean Fishermen Charged for Using Gillnet without a License
Some Belizeans were also found to be conducting illegal fishing. Around two-thirty on Wednesday, the Belize Coast Guard’s Maritime Law Enforcement Team intercepted a fishing boat in the Corozal Bay area. Two Belizean fishermen from Sarteneja were found on board. The men, according to the coast guard, didn’t have a license for the gillnet they were using. They were detained and handed over to police in Corozal where they are expected to be charged for operating without a valid gillnet license, violation of curfew law and failure to wear a face mask while out in public.
