B.N.T.U. Prez: “Words Have Meaning”

Elena Smith

At this time, the B.N.T.U. is also speaking on behalf of the Public Service Union and sharing the same position. Quoting the Prime Minister’s own words, Senator Elena Smith says that “words have meaning” and the union is being very cautious as to what terms and conditions they agree to.

Elena Smith, National President, B.N.T.U.

“As the Prime Minister said words have meanings and as part of our role as union is to negotiate. We do understand how those words and depending how they are used can come back and haunt you. So for that reason we wanted to ensure that the proper word was used.”

Hipolito Novelo

“And that proper word is “defer.”

“Well we had our position and they had their position. So let’s put it that way. But at the end of the day we wanted to ensure that our members were not losing too much if you will. And that was our goal and I believe that if after we go through the document and if there is full agreement then we would have achieved that goal.”
