Motorcycle Goes Up in Flames on Philip Goldson Highway

A delivery man from Atlantic Restaurant on the Philip Goldson Highway escaped with his life on Sunday afternoon after the motorcycle he was travelling on suddenly combusted. Robert Thomas was making a food delivery and had just left the restaurant when as he neared the vicinity of DK’s Supermarket, the motorcycle caught fire. He quickly jumped off the bike and within seconds, it was completely engulfed in flames. Station Officer Kenneth Mortis of the National Fire Service says that they received a call of an accident and responded to find the motorcycle on fire.

“We got call of a, the initial call said a vehicle accident. When we arrived on the scene, we realise that it was actually a motorcycle that was on fire. So we did our fire-fighting techniques and extinguish the fires and we tried to gather some information as we went along throughout the course of the operation. We learnt that the bike was owned and driven at the time by a thirty-eight-year-old Belizean of a Belize City address, a Mister Thomas; he was one of the motorcycle deliver guys for Atlantic Restaurant. We learnt that Mister Thomas allegedly saw fire coming from the motorbike and in an attempt to save his life; he jumped off the bike before it could have exploded. We are still trying to confirm the exact nature as to whether Mister Thomas’ bike was experiencing mechanical difficulties that he wasn’t aware of. Those are the titbits, fine details that we are still trying to work out.  So we are hoping by tomorrow’s end we can have a definitive cause as to what may have contributed to this mysterious blaze.”
