Jones goes for second gold in Sydney
In news from Sydney, Marion Jones will shortly be going for gold medal number two. The semifinal rounds in the 200 metre dash will begin around one Thursday morning Belize time with the final about 2 hours later. A number of other major track and field finals will also be held throughout the night including the men’s two hundred, the men’s long jump, shotput and decathlon. You can watch the action live throughout the night right here on Channel Five. In a related development, dozens of irritated viewers have called News Five to say that their television signal is being mysteriously blocked at precisely those times that the Olympics are broadcast on Channel Five. Channel Five engineers have traced the problem to actions taken by two Belize City cable systems, Baymen Cable and Graniel Telecable. It appears that for reasons best known only to themselves, the two cable operators do not want their subscribers to watch the Olympics live on Five. We are powerless to do anything about the problem, other than to point out to the Broadcasting Authority that these actions violate the terms of their cable licenses. All we can suggest to disgruntled viewers is to call up Mr. Hoare on Baymen Avenue or Mr. Graniel on “A” Street and ask them what they have against the Olympic games.
