Playwright releases new CD

Story Picture
He is among Belize’s most talented and durable performers, but John Watler has yet to translate that talent into celebrity or salary. Fortunately that hasn’t stopped him from doing what he does best.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

Belizean storyteller, John Alexander Watler has produced his first audio release after entertaining Belizeans with folklore for the past 40-years. Watler says his new release entitled “Escape to Nomo Nomo,” is more than just a Brer Anansi story. It’s a journey that takes us into the past revisiting truths upon which our ancestors survived. Watler says although it took him longer than he would have liked, he believes he could not have come out with the work at a better time.

“I planned to release it on the very day that the copyright law went into effect because I think that the copyright law is a very good thing for Belize and for Belizean artists. I know that it’s currently in its infancy and it needs a lot of work to bring it up to where it will be providing the maximum benefit to Belizean artists. “Escaped to Nomo Nomo” is a piece of work which I have really worked on and I am looking at both a Belizean and international audience for this product.”

The CD is presently available at the Belize Arts Council behind Macmillan Brothers or at the Tambran Record Store in the Commercial Centre for $30.
