Police gunshots wound fleeing suspect
In crime news, the 21st did not go by without its share of violence. Thursday night at around 7:30, a man was injured by gunfire while attempting to flee from the police. Witnesses told News Five that they saw Emerson Talbert, better known as Puerto Rican, dashing into a yard on Wagner’s Lane with his bicycle and exit another yard on South Street with the police in pursuit. The neighbors on South Street said that the officers fired at least five shots before a bloody Talbert fell to the ground. Those witnesses we spoke to say that the shooting was unprovoked because Talbert could not pose a threat to the police, as he had both hands on his bicycle handle while trying to run away. A police press release said that Talbert was identified as the armed attacker in a robbery and assault incident and that he had pointed a gun at an officer, who responded by shooting at Talbert. A black imitation firearm was recovered on the scene. Talbert, a former employee of the KHMH, sustained gunshot wounds to both thighs and underwent surgery this morning.
