Japan donates to three institutions
Today, the government of Japan donated over U.S. $204,000 to three local institutions. The Belize Audubon Society received $82,000, Chapel School in Orange Walk Town $69,000 and Big Falls School in Toledo received over $52,000. The funds were provided through Japan’s Grassroots Economic Cooperation program.
Katsuyuki Tanaka, Ambassador of Japan to Belize
“Our government started this program in 1996. The reason why we started this program is to help to support the noble and excellent jobs done by the civil societies in the field of education, public welfare, environment protection or healthcare.”
“I think this is the expression of the friendship and sympathy which Japanese people have for the Belizean people. Also I emphasize that this is the expression of the wish of the Japanese people to support the noble cause existing in Belizean society.”
The Audubon Society will use the funds to purchase audio-visual equipment for environmental studies while Big Falls and Chapel schools will use their portion of the grant to construct additional classrooms.
