Storm causes damage in Belize City
Just a few months ago Belize was the setting for the movie “After the Storm.” The same title could also be used to describe much of Belize City this morning. High winds and torrential rains lashed the coast causing some unusual damage. One sign at the Texaco gas station on North Front Street was partially destroyed, while in the Fort George area, two large African Tulip trees were uprooted. The winds also toppled a concrete block wall of the Lodge Hall on Caesar Ridge Road. Fortunately no one was injured by the falling blocks, which were not reinforced with steel. The Meteorology Department says that for the next two days Belize will continue to receive showers and possible thunderstorms from an unstable airflow, which is active along the coast at nighttime and over inland areas during the afternoon.
