Inquiry will examine policeman’s death
On Wednesday, the Belize Police Department will lay to rest one of their own men who died under mysterious circumstances at the Queen Street Police Station. Details are sketchy, but reports are that on Sunday night Onesimo Caliz, police constable number 64, was allegedly having an argument on the compound with his common law wife Lena Cruz, who is also a police constable. A short time later, it is reported that Caliz either threw himself, fell off, or was pushed from the verandah in front of the Criminal Investigation Branch offices. Police say they are still not certain about the events surrounding Caliz’s death and are speaking to a number of persons who were on duty that night. Caliz received multiple head injuries and died shortly after being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for the late Onesimo Caliz will take place at the Lord’s Bank Community Centre in Lord’s Bank Village. The body will be received at 2:00 p.m. for services at 3:00.
