P.S.U. and G.O.B. Agree on Increment Negotiations

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance sent out an addendum to a circular that had been previously released in respect of increments owed to eligible public officers for the fiscal year 2020.  The memo from Financial Secretary Joseph Waight goes over the position that government has taken where those salary adjustments are concerned, that if and when the economic circumstances improve, government has committed to reconsider the increments.  This evening, First Vice President Dean Flowers of the Public Service Union, told News Five that the addendum is in line with the P.S.U.’s final position that they will forgo increments until government is in a better financial situation to be able to revisit that discussion.

“It’s an addendum that we’ve been waiting for, for well over a week now, so we’re pleased that it is out.  We believe that to a certain degree it’s self-explanatory.  I think that addendum number two to Circular Number 5 speaks to exactly where the union agreed, it speaks to the position the union took with the Ministry of Finance two weeks ago when we convened the meeting with the PM and the FinSec. This was the compromise that we were able to get from the Ministry of Finance which is that if and when the economic circumstances improve government commits to revisit and we examine the position of the increment, so that’s pretty much the way it is going forward.”
