Castillo group presents cheque to children’s home

Two weeks ago the Santiago Castillo group of companies hosted a one day fair to raise money for the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre on St. Thomas street. Today the children’s home received its cheque for $20,000. The money raised will be used to establish a counseling service urgently needed at the Home. Anuar Flores, managing director of the Santiago Castillo Group of Companies, says they decided to do something special to secure a future for the children.

“In my opinion, yes. I think it was extremely successful. It’s a first time event for us, we had quite a lot of teething problems and we have learnt a lot, but as an overall assessment I would say it was extremely successful.”
“We have agreed to do an annual event. We have not entirely decided whether the annual events will be directed to one organisation in particular. We may decide to focus on another organization and just change annual we have not decided on that as yet that is something still that is up in the air.”

“Like all government institutions, there is always need for further funding. We have been struggling to cater to all the ills of society, and this particular children’s home has anywhere between 30 to 36 children on a daily basis for us to care for, and is very badly in need of counseling services. So this Santiago Castillo group at the behest of the Board of Governors at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre, kindly came in and decided to do a little fundraiser to enable us and the centre to get the services and some counseling for our children. Most of the children who come here are in one way or another having some kind of problem and they do need counseling and guiding services, hence the need for these kinds of cooperation.”

“Do you all have any plans as to how this particular service will be conducted?”
Carlos Santos
“It will be conducted through the board of governors. We have a very active and responsible board of governors at this particular institution and we would like very much to use it as a model to see how the private sector, the community sector and the government can work together. This is a beautiful example and I am happy that this can happen. It is gonna work in between our ministry and the board, working together to develop a plan of how it’s gonna work specifically.”
Santos says the counseling service will be established a soon as possible.
