Scouts spearhead coastal cleanup

Story Picture
On Saturday, a small army of Belizean youths will be out in force to clean up our coastline and rivers. The annual activity is held in connection with the international coastal cleanup organized by the Centre for Marine Conservation based in Washington, D.C. Several years ago the National Scouts of Belize became hosts of the activity and today the association is getting ready to send out its troops.

Orlando Garcia, Field Executive, Scouts Association

“The clean up started a couple of years aback, about 5 years ago and on an invitation from the Centre of Marine Conservation, we decided to do this activity with our scouts.”

Jacqueline Woods

“Have you all been receiving support from the business community?”

Orlando Garcia

“Of course, we have been receiving lot of support from the business communities, some of which I would like to mention. Crystal Refreshing Water, Novelos Bus Service, who is providing transportation for the scouts to be transported to the different strategic points. For example, in Belize district they are being moved to the Belizean Beach and the Belama Extension area.”

If you would like to contribute to the cleanup campaign you are asked to get in touch with the Scouts Association to see what kind of assistance is needed.
