Another Drug Plane Landing?
A drug plane is believed to have landed in southern Belize early this morning. Reports of a low-flying airplane began circulating as early as two o’clock this morning. Soon after, it was learnt that members of the Special Operations Task Force were deployed down south as intelligence suggested that the plane landed near Graham Creek. In the morning, it was reported that three trucks heading towards Barranco Village were intercepted by police. Information received later in the day was that the plane had landed near Otoxha Village, in the rural area of Toledo. Up to late this evening, B.D.F. and police were conducting checks in the area and there is no confirmation that the aircraft had been located. But we note that Police Commissioner Chester Williams accompanied by Minister of National Security Michael Peyrefitte, C.E.O. George Lovell, B.D.F. General Steven Ortega, Coast Guard Admiral and senior officials in the Ministry of National Security carried a tour and familiarization in the south. The contingent visited the B.D.F. Tree Top Base, the B.D.F. Fairweather Camp, Punta Gorda Police Station, Barranco joint Police B.D.F. Coast Guard Station, the B.D.F. Sarstoon Base and the Belize Coast Guard Hunting Caye Base.
