Broadcast Auth. recommends TV license for Krem
With only a week to go before the opening ceremonies the main issue facing the Belizean broadcasting media has been the controversy over the Olympics. But while the games have dominated the headlines, a more significant event took place quietly on Thursday afternoon. Sources close to the Belize Broadcasting Authority have confirmed reports in Amandala that the BBA has approved the application of Krem Radio to be granted a television broadcasting license. If the license is signed by Minister of Broadcasting Mark Espat, it would be the first instance in the region–perhaps the world–in which a single entity in one market owned a newspaper, radio station and television station. Belize already enjoys the dubious distinction of having more television stations per capita than any other country in the world.
