PACT funds signs for protected areas

In the course of visiting any of Belize’s highly touted protected areas, you may have found the parks long on nature, but short on explanation. That situation should soon change as the Protected Areas Conservation Trust has donated $128,000 to make standard signs for eleven protected areas. The locations included in the program are: Blue Hole Natural Monument, Victoria Peak Natural Monument, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Community Baboon Sanctuary, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Five Blues Lake National Park, Guanacaste National Park, Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, Laughing Bird Caye National Park, Payne’s Creek National Park, St. Herman’s Cave and the Blue Hole National Park. The weather resistant signs will incorporate internationally recognized symbols and logos for basic facilities such as restrooms, phone and parking and will include text that willaid visitors in understanding more about the different attractions. The project is expected to start this month and should be completed by December.
