August 10th is Back to School Day!
There is a tentative date for students to return to the classrooms. Today, the Ministry of Education announced that the current school year officially ends this month and a tentative date for the reopening of the upcoming school year is August tenth. The ministry says it is earlier than in the past, but offers students an opportunity to catch up with their curriculum. Schools closed due to the COVID-19 on March twenty-second, but students were engaged in at home learning. Minister of Education, Patrick Faber notes that reopening depends on other factors, including advice of the Ministry of Health. He also outlined key dates students, teachers and parents must take note of as they work towards reopening.
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“The current school year 2019-2020 will officially be brought to a close at the end of this month of June. And the Ministry has consulted with its partners and health authorities regarding possible dates for the reopening of schools and the following is our intention. June fifteenth to June thirtieth we are hoping that all secondary school teachers and counsellors can return to school, this is in preparation for the CSEC exams and also to close out the school year and to start pre-planning for the start of the new school year. August third to the seventh, we will be requiring pre-schools, primary and secondary schools teachers to return to prepare for the start of the new school year and also to prepare for diagnostics assessment and intervention planning. August tenth is a key date to watch. This is when we believe we are going to be poised to open schools at the pre-school, primary and secondary levels so that all teachers and students can start the new school year.”
