Colombia exhibits crafts, culture

It is a South American country with a wide window on the Caribbean. This week Belizeans will get to learn more about this fascinating nation, which all too often is seen only as a land of coffee and cocaine. This morning I got a sneak preview of a new exhibition.

The craft exhibition highlights the different cultures of Colombia. The display is part of a culture week hosted by the Colombian government in an effort to strengthen its ties with Belize.

“What we have here in an exhibit of the different cultures of Colombia. Colombia is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country.”
“The different pieces are just a few examples of what our pre-Colombian people did. There are also examples of gold from the gold museum of Colombia, which is an important museum because it has one of the largest gold collections in the world. And we also have works that are made from different materials such as clay, wood and carbon.”
The Crafts exhibition, which is being hosted at the Mexican Cultural Institute, will come to a close on September 15th.
The cultural week also includes a food and music exposition which will be held at the Radisson Fort George from September 7th to the 11th. The general public is invited to attend both events.
