Bomb scare empties school

Story Picture
Today, the students of Sadie Vernon High School were sent home early after a man called the police to say that a bomb was planted at the school and would go off shortly. Both the staff and students were quickly evacuated as the police barricaded the immediate area.

Geraldine Tillett, Principal

“Well actually we didn’t get a phone call. I saw the police drive into the yard and they came upstairs and I sort of joked and asked who they came to arrest. He said nobody, but he didn’t actually let on as to what went on. It was not until one of the officers came that he said “Well we got a call saying that there was a bomb here and it was going to explode in about ten minutes.” That’s the first we knew of it. So I immediately informed the students through the intercom to evacuate the building.”

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Public Relations Officer

“The person said a bomb was planted on the building, gave us a ten minute time to get out or else it would explode, but as we know, it’s a life threatening situation, so we are not going to take this for granted and say “Hey, ten minutes pass, it didn’t go off it’s all right.” We are going to go through the process. Right now we are waiting the arrival of the bomb experts from the BDF and eventually we’ll have the building swept to see if we find anything.”

As in other reported incidents of bomb threats, no explosive device was found on the premises. The general public is being reminded that it is a serious offense to make such prank calls.
