Foodfest raises funds for cathedral

You may buy your groceries at BTL Park, but to eat your afternoon meal you may want to head across the bridge. On Saturday the Restoration Committee for Saint John’s Cathedral is holding its annual International Food Fest. The Church was built with bricks brought over from England and since its completion in 1826, has weathered sun and storm to the point where serious restoration work is needed. The committee hopes that their fund raising events will enable the church to repair and preserve this historic site.
Dane Ramclam, Restoration Committee
“Every year around this year this time we have a foodfest, Saint John’s Restoration Committee. The foodfest is to raise money to repair the cathedral roof. The international foodfest is something where we have food from around the world, like boil-up, rice and beans, curry chicken, lasagna, Indian food. Our main goal is to repair the cathedral roof, the roof is in a bad state at this moment. The committee of Saint John’s restoration is trying to do something to repair the roof, because the church is a part of our culture. If all of us would come together, whether Anglicans, non-Anglicans, and everybody would come together and join us we would get this finished, to try to get the roof done. So this year’s foodfest is mainly focusing on the repairs of the roof so far.”
The fest will be held at the Anglican Cathedral College basketball court starting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. In addition to food, the committee will also provide cultural entertainment.
