Gun amnesty continues on track

Story Picture
As the first week of the Cash For Guns programme comes to a close, the organizers say the effort so far has been a success. A tally of today’s haul includes a variety of weapons and according to vice chairman, Darrel Carter, the organisers are optimistic that next week will be just as productive.

Darrel Carter, Vice Chairman, Cash For Guns

“So far very good. We are pleased with the media support of the programme, which helps the society to be aware and have them coming in. We believe that by the end of the day we will have over twenty guns again for today. We have been able to take out a nine millimetre, a thirty-eight, twenty-five, twenty-two, a lot of pen guns, and lots of bullets. Very successful”

“The weekend is here, will the programme continue through Saturday and Sunday?”

Darrel Carter

“We will rest for Sunday, but we will open on Saturday, the same time from 8:00 until 6:00 in the evenings and resume back Monday morning bright and early at 8:00 again for the last stretch of the amnesty, which will close off on Saturday. However, next week we are targeting the prison. On Tuesday morning, we will be doing an impromptu thing out in the prison. We will be taking some cash out there and going from cell to cell to encourage anybody that has a piece or any weapons or anything of sort, so that we could clear that up and we are on to Dangriga on Wednesday. We will spend a whole day out there, complementing what is happening here, so that we could take the programme up a notch next week.”

“So while you all will be in Dangriga as well as in Hattieville, the centre here will be open.”

Darrel Carter

Yes, that’s correct.”

The receiving centre is located at the corner of Cemetery Road and Elston Kerr Street.
