New Methodist leader vows to involve men

The Methodist Church in Belize is inducting a new president for its Belize/Honduras District Conference. The President-elect, Reverend Charles David Goff, succeeds Reverend Lesley Anderson, who has been appointed president of the Panama/Costa Rica District Conference. Goff was ordained to the Christian Ministry in 1985 and since 1992 has served in Belize as the Superintendent of the Wesley and Ebenezer Circuits. Goff told News Five he is adamant on finding a way to bring men back into the church.

“Over the next three years, I hope by the grace of God to look seriously on training and Evangelism. I feel we need to as a church, develop the resources we have, particularly among our youth and our male membership. It is one of my concerns that somehow as a church we have not been able to reach out to the men and to motivate them to become involved in the light of the church, and still to a large extent the church is predominantly women and younger people, a lot of children as well. So we have to see how we can get male folk out. So through training, through Evangelism, I’m hoping we can achieve that goal.”

Goff holds a masters degree in theology and will serve as president for three years. He will be officially inducted in a ceremony at Wesley Church on Sunday afternoon at four o’clock.
