FinSec Says G.O.B. Will Meet June’s Wage Bill
Government has been struggling to meet its monthly wage bill as a result of the economic meltdown left in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The months of April and May were particularly rough for government as it struggled to maintain the wage bill amid the countrywide state of emergency which brought economic activity to a screeching halt. But is it able to meet its June payroll, despite the present hardships? According to the financial secretary, government is doing its best to hold the salaries of public officers and teachers steady.
On the Phone: Joseph Waight, Financial Secretary
“We have maintained the wage bill, April, May and now June coming up. As you know, it’s a very significant amount and it includes, of course, teachers’ salaries and pensions, as well and we are doing our best to hold it.”
As you heard earlier, government subventions have been reduced across the broad causing layoffs at NICH.
