B.H.A.’s Survey is Different from B.T.I.A.’s
Is there an overlap between the recent poll conducted by the B.T.I.A. and the hotel association’s survey? According to Tejada, only the core membership of B.H.A., those businesses that are actual hotels, were allowed to participate in the survey, eliminating other ancillary businesses that provide support to the hotel sector.
Ted Tejada, President, Belize Hotel Association
“The Belize Tourism Industry Association does comprise of more businesses that are not real hoteliers and in this particular case, the Belize Hotel Association also has a lot of businesses that are not hoteliers. For example, we have Vista. We have Mr. Hugo here from the real estate association that we had a meeting with yesterday. We have Mirab, Madisco. We have all these businesses that are not hoteliers that are being affected because of no tourism. We decided to exclude them out of our pooling and we wanted to understand the benefactors of the closing of the tourism industry which is the hotels. How does it affect and what they thought about reopening the airport. So that‘s why we ended up limiting the survey only to the hotels and again, we limited it only to the members of the Belize Hotel Association, plus we added the rest of the hotels that comprise eighty percent of the total revenue of the country of Belize.”
Of a hundred and forty hotels that were requested to complete the survey, only sixty-eight percent responded.
