U.D.P. Leadership Convention Will Take Place on July 12th
In political news, there is now word that the U.D.P. leadership convention will take place on Sunday, July twelfth, less than a month away. The previous, very lavish convention in February was held at the Civic Centre in Belize City, but the July convention will move to the ITVET on Freetown Road. Five names are on the ballot: John Saldivar, Patrick Faber, Darrell Bradley, Omar Figueroa and Wilfred Elrington. COVID-19 put things on pause, but with national elections looming ahead, the U.D.P. is cranking up with its second leader to be elected in five months. Saldivar, as you know, had to step down within three days after he was elected when it was revealed he had been taking cash in tranches from a U.S. fraudster. At the time, Saldivar trounced Faber and it was widely known that he had the support of the U.D.P. hierarchy. Now, Saldivar believes he has cleared his name. But has he? Time will tell.
